A nonprofit theatre collective bringing nomadic, site-specific performances to unexpected spaces throughout Lancaster, PA.
The Challenge
Creative Works of Lancaster built its reputation on unconventional, imaginative theatre—staging performances everywhere from restaurants and parks to cemeteries and community spaces. Their nomadic approach became a defining part of their identity, but it also introduced unique challenges.
As a small, donation-funded troupe, their visibility relied heavily on strong grassroots marketing. They needed consistent, engaging promotional materials that could support audience growth, energize the local arts community, and communicate the personality and creativity behind each show. With limited resources, every asset had to work hard—capturing attention, conveying the concept, and encouraging attendance.
The Solution
During CWL’s early growth, I took on a multifaceted role as both a performer and a member of the Board of Directors, serving as Chair of the Marketing Committee. Because I was deeply involved with the troupe—starting with performing in their first production, The Santaland Diaries, and continuing through many shows afterward—I understood the tone, humor, and spirit that defined their work.
This allowed me to shape a cohesive visual voice that matched the energy of the performances. I created a wide range of marketing materials, including posters, postcards, digital graphics, event announcements, and promotional campaigns for individual productions. Each piece was designed to reflect the distinct personality of the show while maintaining an overall sense of brand continuity for the organization.
My work helped establish CWL’s early creative identity, supported their ability to reach new audiences, and provided the foundation for a recognizable, approachable, and community-forward brand presence. Through consistent messaging and fresh, inventive visuals, I helped translate their experimental, nomadic style into marketing that resonated with local audiences and contributed to the company’s continued visibility and growth.
